Baseline — Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and the developer of Baseline, an individual developer in Finland ("we", "us"). By creating an account or playing, you accept them, together with the Code of Conduct. How we handle your data is explained in the privacy policy.

1. The game is in beta

Baseline is still being built. Features, items, balance and the map change often, sometimes without notice. Things will break. During the beta we may reset or adjust progress, items or the map when that is needed to fix the game, and we may pause or end the beta. We will tell players in the game before any planned reset.

2. Who can play

• You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian before you play, and play only where they are happy for you to go.
• You need a Google account to sign in. One account per person.
• You may not play if we have closed an earlier account of yours for breaking these terms.

3. Your safety comes first

Baseline sends you outdoors to real places. You are responsible for where you go and how you get there.

• Be aware of your surroundings. Do not play while driving or riding anything that needs your attention.
• A node on the map is not permission to enter a place. Stay on public ground, obey signs, closures and the law, and never trespass.
• Map data can be wrong or out of date. A place may be closed, gone, dangerous or on private land. If it looks unsafe or off-limits, do not go there, and report the node.
• Do not play anywhere or in any way that could hurt you or other people.

4. Your account

• Keep your Google account secure. What happens on your Baseline account is your responsibility.
• Your callsign and faction are shown to other players. Callsigns must follow the Code of Conduct.
• You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account, or as described on the account deletion page.

5. Rules of play

Follow the Code of Conduct. In short: stay safe and legal, respect other people and their privacy, one account per person, your real location only, the official app only, no bots, no selling accounts or items, and report bugs instead of using them.

Cheating. The game checks that reported positions and actions are plausible. Location spoofing, emulators, modified apps and automation are not allowed. We may undo what was gained by cheating and restrict or close the accounts involved.

6. What you write in the game

Your callsign, chat messages, reports and the locations you submit remain yours. You give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, show and use them to run the game: showing your messages to the players they were sent to, showing submitted locations on the map, and moderation. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for locations that have become part of the shared map, which may stay without your name.

Do not post anything you do not have the right to share, or anything illegal.

7. Moderation

We may hide content, reset callsigns, mute chat, sign an account out, suspend it or close it when content or behaviour breaks these terms, the Code of Conduct or the law. Reports are read by a person, and decisions are made by a person.

When we restrict your content or account, we tell you in the game which rule was broken and what we did, unless the law or safety of others prevents that. You can ask for a decision to be looked at again by emailing info@baselinegame.net within six months.

We may remove or move a node at any time, for example when its owner asks, when it is unsafe, or when it does not exist.

8. Items and purchases

Items, levels, Relays, fields and everything else in the game have no money value, cannot be exchanged for money and are not your property. They exist only inside the game and may change with it.

Nothing is sold in the game during the beta. If purchases are added later, their terms will be shown before you buy, and your legal rights as a consumer will apply.

9. Our content

The game, its code, art, text and names belong to us or our licensors. You may use them only to play Baseline. You may share screenshots and videos of your play.

Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. Some place data comes from Wikidata (CC0).

10. No guarantee

The game is provided as it is, free of charge, during a beta. We do our best to keep it running and fair, but we do not promise that it is always available, free of errors, or that progress will never be lost.

11. Liability

We are not liable for injury, loss or damage that comes from where you go or what you do while playing, for other players' behaviour, or for losing in-game progress or items — to the extent the law allows.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for harm caused on purpose or by gross negligence, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and nothing takes away your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

12. Ending the agreement

You can stop playing and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms (see section 7). If we shut the game down, we will give notice in the game at least 30 days before, where possible.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the game changes. For a significant change we will tell you in the game before it takes effect. If you keep playing after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Finland. If you live in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country.

If something goes wrong, contact us first at info@baselinegame.net. Consumers in Finland can also take a dispute to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariita.fi), and consumers elsewhere in the EU can contact their national consumer body or the European Consumer Centre in their country.
